USVI vacation

St Thomas condo

USVI Condo Rental Tips:

If you want to do some cooking in your condo here's some tips learned from experience:

Take the Safari bus to the 'Mall' and shop at Plaza Extra for groceries. It's a big store with reasonable prices and a large selection of food, produce and alcohol. (get a quart of Cruzan Rum for under $5-)

Then, step out the door with your full shopping cart (and empty wallet) and negotiate a ride from one of the pirate taxi drivers in their SUV. Pay about five to fifteen dollars per person (negotiate a bit) for you and all your groceries direct to your accommodations. (quick enough to keep the ice cream from melting!)

Check out the laundry situation. If there's nothing available where you are at then try the laundry mat in Red Hook.

A real smart idea is to pack up any condiments, plastic cups, dry bulk food, coffee, etc into your suitcase before you leave. After using it, you'll have room to pack all your souvenirs !

Virgin Island Condo Rentals

condo rentals

The Virgin Islands can offer some great deals on condo rentals. There are beach condos, hotels and all inclusive resorts. Even a Best Western and a Holiday Inn.
The Antilles Resorts runs a few nice properties around St Thomas. If you don't have a specific complex in mind call them and ask which one they can offer you the best deal on. They will usually have something to offer at a discounted rate. Especially on shorter notice.

To save some money you can usually find a rental by owner for $50- less a night and usually avoid the 18% hotel tax. There's hundreds of Virgin Island condo rentals by owner. Just take the usual buyers beware approach if you are dealing directly with the owner, especially if they don't live on the island. (local maintenance available?)

You can also rent owner properties direct from some of the resorts. For example, both Point Pleasant and Sapphire Beach Resort offer a hotel program where they manage and maintain the units (clean sheets, working appliances, etc) You deal with the front office and have full service. Just like a deluxe hotel anywhere.

Another money saving option is to rent from a local USVI Realtor. They always provide nice units and you have someone local to call if you have a problem.

A very fun place to stay is at Bolongo Beach Resort. It's a bit remote, but offers a great all inclusive program. We especially enjoy their Carnival Extravaganza night. Even if you're not staying there you can attend most any of their fabulous activities for a reasonable fee.
